Russian sentenced to 10 years of colony for spying for Georgia

The Supreme Court of North Ossetia has sentenced Eduard Gobozov, a Russian citizen and head of the division of army service and safety of the Armed Forces of the Ministry of Defence of South Ossetia, to 10 years of imprisonment after he was found guilty of espionage in favour of Georgia.

According to the investigation, in 2004-2009 Gobozov delivered for money to Georgian special services the quantitative and qualitative data about the structure, places of deployment and movement of the army subdivisions of the Russian Ministry of Defence and Frontier Service of the FSB of Russia in the territory of South Ossetia for further use of this data against the external safety of the Russian Federation, the "Gazeta.Ru" reports.

Taking into account that the defendant had completely pled guilty, repented and actively cooperated with the investigation at inquiry of his criminal case, as well as the fact that he has three small children, the court has sentenced Eduard Gobozov to 10 years of a high security corrective colony, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
