Town in Chechnya, republican subordination, rayon (sector) centre, 36 km south-east of Grozny. Located in the southern part of the Chechen sloping plain on the Dzhalka River (the right inflow of the Sunzha River, the Terek Basin), 18 km south of the railway station of Argun in the Beslan - Grozny - Gudermes line. A motor road junction. Population (1992 est.) 26.8 thousand.
Founded in 1990 on the basis of a large Chechen village. An agricultural centre. At the beginning of the 1990s, the town had enterprises of food-processing industry.
