Several NGOs in Georgia held an "action of silence" in front of the Parliament

On September, 28, a coalition of non-governmental organizations held an "action of silence" in front of the building of the Parliament demanding to start a public discussion on the draft of the new Constitution of the country. They also started a signature-gathering campaign under a special appeal.

Liya Mukhashavria, one of the participants, declared that the actions in front of the Parliament would last until the demands of the people are taken into consideration.

During the action in was also announced that a signature-gathering campaign was being launched with the demand to hold up discussion of the draft of the new Constitution in the Parliament. "The new draft is aimed at prolongation of Saakashvili's presidency after the end of his legal term of office which ignores the people's will", Giya Tsagareishvily, deputy of the Parliament remarked.

Well-known politicians and representatives of scientific circles took part in the action together with the NGOs.

About 300 people were present at the action, "Georgia Online" reports.
