A tanker from Novorosiisk attacked in Nigeria

A tanker of a Russian company "Novoship/Sovkomflot" NS Spirit (Novorossiisk, Krasnodar region) which was in the roads of Lagos sea-port in Nigeria was attacked this night, one of the sailors got wounded.

The tanker is drifting near the takeup buoy of Lagos sea-port. For several hours the vessel has been unable to get aid from an agent or the port authorities. The crew of the vessel consisting of 21 people had come to Lagos from Ventspils.

According to the web-site of "Novoship" Company, the attack took place on Monday night, at 01:49 Moscow time when the tanker was approaching the roads of Lagos sea-port, in 30 miles distance from the shore.

The Company's Press Service reports referring the captain of the vessel that about ten armed people disembarked on board the tanker, obviously, for the purpose of robbery, and opened fire from self-firers. The crew managed to evacuate to a shelter. Later on, after the attack, the pirates left the vessel. There were no new attempts of an attack. 

All the members of the crew are alive. "At 09:15 Moscow time the second cook of the food tanker NS Spirit who had got gunshot wounds during the pirates' attack at the vessel was evacuated to a shore hospital by boat, "Novoship" reported.

According to the captain, three members of the crew have been hurt. The arrival of a second boat with a physician on board for medical examination of the sailors is expected very soon. A representative of the Consulate of the Russian Federation in Nigeria will arrive together with the physician.

"Novoship" is in contact with the relatives of the members of the vessel's crew, "Interfax-Yug" reports.
