In Stavropol, militiaman convicted conditionally for beating

Sergey Chizh, a former law enforcement officer of Stavropol, was found guilty of abuse of office and sentenced to three years of conditional imprisonment.

The former militiaman of the service group of the militia division No. 1 of the UVD (Interior Department) for the city of Stavropol Sergey Chizh, was found guilty, in particular, of committing a crime under point "a", Part 3, Article 286 of the Russian Criminal Code (abuse of power with use of violence).

"On October 26, 2010, a young man was brought to militia division No. 1 of the UVD for the city of Stavropol for committing an administrative offence. In the course of conversation, the militiaman provoked a conflict and struck the young man's face with his fists and the butt of his service submachine gun," says the website of the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) for the Stavropol Territory.
