Swiss Parliament recognized Armenian Genocide

The Swiss Parliament passed a resolution on Tuesday, December 16, recognizing mass killings of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire during the First World War as genocide.

107 parliament members voted for the resolution, 67 parliamentarians voted against it. Just after the resolution had been passed, Turkey denounced this decision, making Switzerland responsible for all negative consequences which the passing of this resolution might produce.

About 1.5 million people were killed in the campaign to exile Armenians from eastern Turkey in 1915-1918, according to data by the Armenian side. Turkey, in its turn, disclaims these accusations.
