Head of MNRE orders to check blogger's report on hazardous emission near Sochi

After receiving a complaint through Twitter, Yuri Trutnev, the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) of the Russian Federation, has instructed the "Rosprirodnadzor" (Russian Federal Agency for Supervising the Nature) to identify and eliminate ecological violations in one of Sochi districts.

The information about unrestricted discharges of harmful substances near the village of Krayevsko-Armyanskoe reached Mr Trutnev through Twitter on September 27.

In particular, the message pointed out that near Matsesta, the unique Black Sea balneotherapeutic health resort, wastes are discharged daily, "dust stands in column", and loose mixes are delivered to the village day and night.

The blogger artem varov (ARVarov), the author of the message, emphasizes that he had repeatedly appealed to the law enforcement and regulatory authorities; however, no positive effect followed.

"The RBU (a local enterprise, - note of the "Caucasian Knot") is located in the centre of the village, amidst dwelling houses, near the river, and it operates without any documents. Five years of appeals and letters to the law enforcement agencies and your agency passed with no positive effect. They poison the people and the environment," the blogger reported to the Minister.

The "Rosprirodnadzor" will consider circumstances and causes of the appeal directed to the Minister through the Twitter. The local authorities will begin an unscheduled inspection at the above location in the nearest future, the ITAR-TASS reports.
