An official detained in Volgograd for suspicion of taking a bribe of one million rubles

Head of Kirovsky district of Volgograd Sergey Kapanadze was detained by the police within the framework of investigating a case of swindle in building a municipal physical training complex (PTC). Kapanadze is suspected of bribetaking and abuse of authority, Press service of Chief Directorate of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Volgograd region reported. 

"The suspect who formerly headed a committee for building Mayor's Office of Volgograd demanded a bribe to a sum of one million rubles from the director of a company building the physical training complex for general patronage", a representative of Press service added. 

According to the investigation, the first portion of the bribe to a sum of 500 thousand rubles was transferred to the official in July, 2010, the rest of the money was expected to be given after accomplishment of the building. 

Yesterday, September, 29, the investigators carried out searches at the suspect's home and office during which documents and material evidence significant for the investigation of the criminal case were confiscated. Besides, facts of Kapanadze's abuse of authority during signing the documents on building the PTC were established, "В1.ru" reports.

The reaction to these statements from Sergey Kapanadze himself or his attorneys is yet unknown.
