Soma Radio in Sukhum launches series of programs on social issues

For the first time, Soma Radio, Sukhum, has launched a series of programs devoted to social issues. The project is being implemented with the help of the British NGO Conciliation Resources. Young journalists Lana Tarkil and Rozita German are engaged in the project.

The first program touches upon the difficulties citizens of Abkhazia face whet they apply for Russia's foreign passport. An interview with Svetlana Gannushkina, a member of the Russian Presidential Commission on Human Rights, is a part of the program too. This interview is devoted to the problem of exchange of Soviet standard passports.

Problems of the youth, cultural life in Abkhazia, development of business in the republic, and official language are among those to be touched upon in the next programs.

  • Stand-up comedian from Yeysk accused of insulting SMO fighter

    A criminal case was opened against Artemy Ostanin, a stand-up comedian from the city of Yeysk, after his performance in which he joked about a disabled person who had stepped on a mine. Investigators saw his words as an insult to a participant in the special military operation (SMO), but Ostanin himself claims that he was joking about a simple beggar.

  • Georgian journalist Amaglobeli fined for insulting policeman

    A judge has obliged Mziya Amaglobeli, the founder of “Batumelebi” and “Netgazeti” outlets, to pay a fine within an administrative case of insulting a police officer. At the hearing on the criminal case of the attack on the police officer, the journalist's defence demanded to challenge the judge, but the motion was dismissed.
