Appeal by human rights activists in Kuban region to the territory's governor

The round table "How Not To Be Afraid of the Militia" took place in Krasnodar on December 2, 2003. It was organized by the Fund "School of Peace", the Novorossiysk Committee on Human Rights, and the Krasnodar Club of Civil Education of the Krasnodar Regional Public Organization "Creative Union "Southern Wave". The occasion for the discussion was a presentation of the booklet "Inspection of Documents. Simple Advises". It is a pocket-sized edition, which can be easily put in a passport. The booklet was published with the financial support of the World Bank.

Participants in the discussion made an appeal to Governor of Krasnodar Territory Aleksandr Tkachyov asking him to consider the following proposals:

  • To declare that Russia should sign the Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness and to give the commission to the territory's representative in the Federation Council to take the appropriate initiative.
  • To take all the measures necessary to eliminate discrimination in Krasnodar Territory, including those provided by the recommendations of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (March 2003).
  • To declare for the abolition of regional laws that conflict with the federal and international legislation, for instance, Law of Krasnodar Territory No 460-KZ of 11 April 2002 "On Sojourn and Residence in Krasnodar Territory".

  • Defender of Sochi gardeners' rights claims illegal prosecution

    Law enforcers have conducted a search of the home of Tatiana Polivanova, an activist, and her family members in Taganrog in connection with a fraud case with land plots of the Sochi National Park. The Polivanova's organization provided legal assistance to dozens of gardeners whose plots were seized by the court within this case.
