President of Abkhazia: Georgia is not concerned with peaceful resolution of conflict

On January 28, the press service of the Abkhazian President spread an official statement by Vladislav Ardzinba. It is noted in the statement that recently, against the background of the change of power in Georgia, Georgian leaders has repeatedly made statements that raise doubt about Tbilisi's adherence to peaceful settlement of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict and its international legal obligations.

In particular, while speaking to journalists after his January 23 meeting with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili declared, "Until the Georgian army is a mighty force, the United Nations will not be able to help us in Abkhazia, and whatever steps the Georgian leadership take toward Abkhazia, the entire world should warrant them and the entire world should be on our side."

Vladislav Ardzinba emphasized that "the Abkhazian side was concerned with the continuation of the negotiation process and was ready to constructive dialogue with the Georgian side aimed at solving problems entailed by the conflict."

President Vladislav Ardzinba urges upon the United Nations, Russia and the Group of Friends of the UN Secretary-General "to use their influence in order to put an end to the statements and actions of the Georgian side undermining the peace process and being at variance with the international legal obligation undertaken by Georgia in the course of the talks."
