Visit of UN delegation to Satsita camp through refugees' eyes

On January 27, the UN delegation headed by UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Jan Egeland visited the camp of Chechen refugees Satsita, situated on the outskirts of the Ordzhonikidzevskaya village in Ingushetia.

Displaced persons report that bodyguards closely circled the UN Under-Secretary-General and suppressed all attempts by refugees to approach him and tell about their problems. Mr Egeland was guided to one of the new tents that have been erected recently for former inhabitants of the liquidated Alina temporary accommodation center. There he was shown "refugees' normal living conditions." Then the distinguished guest left the tent camp.

The UN delegation spent no more that 10 minutes in the camp, the displaced persons say.
