Presidential Commission on Human Rights chairwoman studies situation with Chechen refugees' home-coming

A group of Russian human rights defenders, headed by Chairwoman of the Russian President's Commission on Human Rights Ella Pamfilova, arrived in the North Caucasus for a working visit on January 29.

The goal of the visit was to inspect the humanitarian situation in the region and to study issues concerning the return of displaced persons from the Chechen Republic to their homeland, said the head of the group.

"The situation is really complex. I fully agree with local human rights activists that no attempt to speed up the process of returning the displaced persons to homeland must be allowed," Ms Pamfilova declared while talking with local human rights activists.
