Mufti of Dagestan calls for the imams, members of power ministries and ordinary citizens to avoid aggression

Mufti of Dagestan Ahmad-haji Abdullaev called for the residents of the republic not to consider Wahhabis the persons who wore long beards or hijabs and asked members of power ministries not to use force against the suspects. The Mufti also refuted the information that the imams submitted lists of Wahhabis to law enforcement personnel.

“Today our Umma experiences hard times. We see perturbations go all over the World just in the places where Moslems live. Today we are as responsible for any our action and every word we say as we have never been before. We must weigh on the scales of Sharia every phrase we pronounce for it may become determinant for even one Moslem’s fate! I pray: do not slander one another, have sympathy and understanding toward each other”, the Mufti’s appeal issued on March, 29, runs.

Ahmad-haji Abdullaev reminds that heads of the Religious Board of Muslims of Dagestan have repeatedly appealed to the people calling to be careful in their utterance and accusations for “it is easy to stick a label on a person but it is much more difficult to remove it”. ‘When you see Moslems wearing long beards or hijabs, no matter black or white, do not call them Wahhabis, do not offend one another even with a glance”, the Mufti asks.

He points out that rumors are spread among the people that the imams allegedly deliver up Wahhabis to officers of law enforcement bodies. “We do not believe it, it is even upsetting to us to hear that. Moreover, such talks are abusive for us”, the Mufti says and reminds the Moslem clergymen that the imams must call people to Islam, shadowing the congregation is not their work. Besides, the imams themselves must warn other people of inadmissibility of such actions.

Appealing to the personnel of law enforcement law enforcement bodies the Mufti says that they are always in a risk zone and work for the sake of the citizens’ peaceful life. “There are probably many of you who lost their family and friends, however malice and aggression are not the way out of the situation”, Ahmad-haji Abdullaev says adding that to punish someone evidence of one’s guilt is mandatory but torture and violence sometimes used to wrest an admission of guilt from people will result in punishment of the violator himself.

  • Lawyers doubt prospect of bills banning religious clothes

The bills that intend to ban wearing religious clothing, including niqabs, in public places are causing a split in the society, which is especially negative amid the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. Religious clothes are not widespread in the country, this issue is not relevant, therefore the bills to ban them will not be adopted, lawyers believe.
