In Kalmykia, prisoner of IK-2 tried to commit suicide

At night on April 2, Magomed Nurudinov, who is serving his sentence at the Penal Colony No. 2 (IK-2) in the Kalmyk village of Yashkul, tried to commit suicide by hanging, said Vladimir Galitrov, the head of the regional branch of the All-Russian Public Movement "For Human Rights".

"Magomed Nurudinov, born in 1977, attempted to hang himself, but he was saved. Before that, he wrote a message, where he named the persons, who had incited him to suicide – the colony manager Mergen Azydov and the deputy head of the UFSIN (Department of the Russian Federal Correction Agency for Kalmykia) Arash Mandjiev," Vladimir Galitrov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The fact of the suicide attempt is under service inquiry, said Bairta Boskhomdjieva, the press secretary of the UFSIN, stressing that "the attempt had no lethal outcome; and Magomed Nurudinov had left no message."

On March 3 relatives of the inmates held a picket in front of the television office, demanding to protect their relatives from violence and ill-treatment by administrations of IK-1 and IK-2, which, according to their stories, are taking place from February 13, 2012.

"According to investigators, on February 13, 2012, in the evening, unidentified officials of the Federal Corrective Institution "Penal Colony No. 2" of the UFSIN for Kalmykia, while in the premises of the colony, inflicted numerous blows to two convicts, causing physical pain and injuries to them. Now, investigatory actions are underway aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime," says the statement of March 29 of the Investigatory Department for Kalmykia of the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).
