In Astrakhan, five hunger-strikers quit protest following doctor's recommendation

Oleg Shein, ex-candidate for position of Mayor of Astrakhan, has persuaded five hunger-strikers to stop participating in the protest action on the recommendation of physician Elizaveta Glinka, the representative of the "League of Voters".

At present, the group of hunger-strikers, Astrakhan residents, seeking cancellation of the outcomes of the election of the City Mayor, were visited by Elizaveta Glinka, Leonid Parfyonov, and Pyotr Shkumatov, the co-founders of the "League of Voters".

After the meeting with hunger-strikers, Elizaveta Glinka said that she recommended weak and sick persons and women to stop participating in the protest action. "You had been listened to, you'll be listened to. I am convinced that you need to find a compromise; you are in a state of extreme... I would persuade half of the participants to stop their protest," said Elizaveta Glinka.

"Following the convincing request, we persuade five persons to stop participating in the hunger strike... People do not really want to leave; however, we want to show that we are not fanatics. Since we receive real help and there are medical conditions, we make concessions," said Oleg Shein.

Asiya Biyasheva, Zinaida Anisenko, Olga Zakharova, Mede Tyulegenova, and Alexander Vinnikov stopped participating in the hunger strike.

Despite objections of doctors, Sergey Chaplygin, who stopped his hunger strike on March 21 due to insistence of ambulance brigade, resumed his participating in the protest action. As a result, on April 6, 18 persons participate in the protest action.

  • Religion experts explain motives for militants’ attacks on synagogue and temple in Dagestan
