Investigation into murder of Antonina Mayevskaya in Sochi goes with violations, lawyer asserts

Investigation into the murder of Antonina Mayevskaya may be delayed, since the defendant is to undergo a forensic psychiatric examination, which is to be held in Moscow. This was reported by Ivan Senegerov, the spokesman of the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) in the Krasnodar Territory. Relatives of Antonina Mayevskaya and the lawyer, who represents their interests, believe that the investigation is being carried out with violations.

"The investigation into the murder of Antonina Mayevskaya will take a long time, since it is necessary to conduct a psychiatric examination of the person accused of the murder. Only after that, the case may be brought to the court," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Ivan Senegerov, Spokesman of the ICRF in the Krasnodar Territory.

"The man accused of the murder of Antonina Mayevskaya has been already examined psychiatrists to solve the issue of his keeping at mental hospital or at a general ward of SIZO (pre-trial prison). The psychiatrists has come to the conclusion that he is quite sane and can be kept at a common ward, where he is at present being kept at the SIZO of the city of Armavir," in turn, a source in the mental hospital in Sochi, who preferred to remain anonymous, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Igor Kurochkin, the lawyer of the relatives of Antonina Mayevskaya, believes that the investigation is carried out with violations of the law and that it is not aimed at clarifying the entire truth and searching for those persons, who stay behind the murder of Antonina Mayevskaya.

"For example, the Volga car, which transported the body of Antonina Mayevskaya, stays parked near the police station for a month already, and its doors are not even sealed. Meanwhile, it is one of the serious physical evidence in the investigation," emphasized the lawyer.

According to Igor Kurochkin, "the case contains a lot of nuances that only family members of Antonina Mayevskaya could know; however, the investigator refused to recognize them as victims." "The lack of victim status deprives the family members to participate in the proceedings, and, therefore, monitor it and challenge its progress," believes the lawyer.

The press service of the ICRF in the Krasnodar Territory has stated that "the investigator is independent in his proceedings, and the investigation into the case of Antonina Mayevskaya's murder is being conducted without violations."

"In Sochi, not the entire group of 'black realtors' has been revealed, and the murder of Antonina Mayevskaya is backed by more serious people than those persons, whom the investigators are trying to declare insane," believes Yury Molchanov, the representative of the "Centre for protection of constitutional rights and interests of citizens".

  • Religion experts explain motives for militants’ attacks on synagogue and temple in Dagestan

Ayats (verses) of the Koran, references to which were left by attackers at a synagogue in Derbent, are interpreted by the extremists to justify their confrontation with Jews and Christians, Leonid Syukiyainen and Dmitry Mikulsky point out.
