Public figures and politicians go to Astrakhan to support hunger-strikers

To support participants of the political hunger strike, who do not recognize the results of the election of the Mayor of Astrakhan, a number of public figures, journalists and politicians go to visit them.

The "Caucasian Knot" wrote that on April 6, the Astrakhan hunger-strikers were visited by the co-founders of the "League of Voters" physician Elizaveta Glinka, journalist Leonid Parfyonov, and Pyotr Shkumatov, coordinator of the movement "Blue Buckets". On April 9, starting from 2:00 p.m., in Moscow, near the building of the representative office of the Governor of the Astrakhan Region, a rally in support of the participants of the hunger strike was held.

On April 9 and 10, the Astrakhan hunger-strikers are to be visited by Elizaveta Glinka, the physician, Alexei Navalny, the opposition leader, Dmitry Gudkov, the State Duma deputy, the leader of the youth wing of the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" (Fair Russia) Party, Ilya Ponomaryov, the member of the State Duma Committee on information policy, information technology and communications, the member of the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" Party, and journalistic delegation. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Oleg Shein, ex-candidate for the position of Mayor.

In his blog in the "Live Journal", Alexei Navalny calls on citizens to go together with him.

"This is an elementary solidarity that we can demonstrate. Otherwise, what our slogans 'one for all and all for one' mean?" Alexei Navalny writes.

As far as health of the hunger-strikers is concerned, then, according to Oleg Shein, people feel well, although those, who cannot stand the hunger strike, are to be replaced by other people.

"There is a 25th day (of the hunger strike); however, we feel well. We intend to fight on. I should note that we are supported by many members of the 'Edinaya Rossiya' (United Russia) Party, therefore, there is no inter-party struggle," Oleg Shein stated.

  • Religion experts explain motives for militants’ attacks on synagogue and temple in Dagestan
