A former serviceman in Armenia went on a hunger strike

Former soldier of statutory service Suren Kirakosyan in Armenia has been on a hunger strike in a correctional ward "Goris" since April, 5.

Suren Kirakosyan was called up for active military service on June, 30, 2009. A report issued by initiative group "Army as is" runs that in accordance with the regulations established by Medical corps department of Armed forces of Armenia, he was unfit for military service and should have been called up after treatment.

Kirakosyan states that these regulations were violated, therefore he tried to evade military service for which he was made criminally liable already for the third time.

On April, 5, Suren Kirakosyan went on a hunger strike demanding to provide him with complex treatment, Lragir.am reports.

On February, 24, 2012, Kirakosyan was arrested for accusation of draft dodging upon the judgment of the court of general jurisdiction of the districts of Ararat and Vayots Dzora. According to Kirakosyan's parents, he has serious problems with his health, Armenia Today reports.
