Yerevan hosts rally organized by oppositional ANC

In Yerevan, in Freedom Square, at 6:40 p.m. local time, the oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) began a sanctioned rally. At present, the rally gathered several thousand people. Candidates for deputy from the ANC called on the audience to come to the parliamentary elections to be held on May 6.

People continue to come to the rally of the Armenian National Congress, some participants of the rally hold posters with names of different regions of the country. There are no policemen in Freedom Square, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Entry to the centre of the Square has been blocked, since the city authorities already began preparations for a concert of Andrea Bocelli, the Italian singer, which will be held in Freedom Square on April 22. The scene has been already installed, and approaches to it are blocked by turnstiles.

Journalist Gayane Arustamyan, the candidate for deputy from the ANC, running in the first district, called on the audience to vote at the elections.

"Vote, and you will see, how the situation will change on May 7: the fascist regime will be in the past and it will no longer be able to do anything," she said.

Vaan Vardapetyan, the member of the ANC, sharply criticized the current authorities also for their failure to keep their promises. "Serzh Sargsyan promised that the list of the ruling party will not include oligarchs, and at present he goes everywhere and calls on to vote for them. You are addressed by your friend, your doctor, who has helped many of you; do not give your voices for the criminal regime," urged Vaan Vardapetyan the participants of the rally.

Nikol Pashinyan, the editor-in-chief of the oppositional newspaper "Armenian Time", the candidate for deputy, running in the seventh district, has expressed his concern that, unfortunately, some people may become an instrument in the hands of falsifiers, since they work at public institutions, serve in the army and so on.

"We are fully aware of the reasons for your constraint, and we do not expect that you will agitate for the ANC and participate in our rallies; however, we expect that, being for 30 seconds in pooling booths, you will vote for the ANC and thus open the way for changes," stated he.
