Parade of 5000 Cossacks held in Krasnodar

Public events dated to the 21st anniversary of the signing of the Law "On Rehabilitation of Repressed Nations", which covered Cossacks, were held on April 21 in Krasnodar.

The audience was addressed by Nikolai Doluda, Ataman of the Kuban Cossack Army and Vice-Governor. "More than two decades have passed from that historic day, when the law on rehabilitation of repressed nations was signed. The law, which became the starting point for revival of the Russian and Kuban Cossacks, the law that allowed Cossacks to be proud again of the glory of their fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers," said Doluda.

According to his story, today the Kuban Cossack Army counts over 43,000 Cossacks; and about 29,000 children attend Cossack schools and classes of the Krasnodar Territory.

However, not everyone is positive to the actions involving Cossacks. "Krasnodar is the native land of Circassians, but Cossacks... had assumed the country of Circassia. Cossacks, go back to your historical homeland, which had never existed in this world," a reader of the "Caucasian Knot" under the nickname Caucasus wrote in one of his comments.

  • Religion experts explain motives for militants’ attacks on synagogue and temple in Dagestan

Ayats (verses) of the Koran, references to which were left by attackers at a synagogue in Derbent, are interpreted by the extremists to justify their confrontation with Jews and Christians, Leonid Syukiyainen and Dmitry Mikulsky point out. The experts suggest that the date of the attack on the Orthodox temple was chosen by the militants because of the Christian holiday celebrated on that day.
