Dagestan: NGO forum offers to set up call centre for power agents' victims

The participants of the forum "Dagestan to Dagestani people" have proposed to set up a special call centre for victims of actions of power agents. The forum was attended by about 300 delegates, who represented public organizations from all over the country.

Almost all the speakers told about offences committed by law enforcement bodies. An entrepreneur Gadjimurad Murtazaliev has offered to set up a united call centre, where all people who suffered from misconduct of power agents could turn for help.

"The main problem of our people is in their legal illiteracy. Therefore, it is necessary to create a call centre, where any person, who has suffered from law enforcers' illegitimate actions, could turn for help. Such centre should employ lawyers and journalists, ready to help such victims," said Mr Murtazaliev.

Dagestan needs Sharia Court, while the people of the republic should unite in the fight for their rights, said Nazhibat Magadova, an entrepreneur.

In the opinion of Magomed Shamilov, the initiator and organizer of the forum, the chairman of the independent trade union of law enforcers, employees of the Russian General Prosecutor's Office and the MIA should be invited to Dagestan that they have identified all of the facts of corruption and civil rights violations.

In his opinion, Dagestan needs reconciliation of the opposing supporters of different branches of Islam. "Today in Dagestan, the most peaceful religion – the Islam – has been turned into an instrument of death and the apple of discord. We need to reconcile these people."

  • Religion experts explain motives for militants’ attacks on synagogue and temple in Dagestan

Ayats (verses) of the Koran, references to which were left by attackers at a synagogue in Derbent, are interpreted by the extremists to justify their confrontation with Jews and Christians, Leonid Syukiyainen and Dmitry Mikulsky point out. The experts suggest that the date of the attack on the Orthodox temple was chosen by the militants because of the Christian holiday celebrated on that day.
