Rasul Mirzaev's defenders challenge extension of his detention

Today, lawyer of Rasul Mirzaev, World Champion in Mixed Martial Arts, filed a complaint against the decision of the Khamovniki District Court of Moscow to extend period of Rasul Mirzaev's detention till July 8, 2012. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Alexei Grebenskoy, the very defender of Rasul Mirzaev.

On May 16, investigator Denis Semenov filed a motion to extend the period of Rasul Mirzaev's detention, victims fully supported the motion, and the court also agreed with the necessity to keep the defendant in custody till trial.

The representative of the Rasul Mirzaev's defence has emphasized that in the complaint, filed today to the Moscow City Court, he pointed out the same main arguments announced by him at the Khamovniki Court.

"Rasul Mirzaev has got strong social relations; he is officially married, and he does not live with his family because of his detention for the last eight months. Investigators and prosecutors presented to the court no materials, giving reasons to believe that he might escape. Besides, no materials, giving reasons to believe that he might exert pressure, were attached to the motion. Throughout the entire period of investigation, no statements from victims and witnesses about pressure on them from Rasul Mirzaev had been reported; he was not going and is not going to put pressure on witnesses," said the representative of the athlete's defence.

At present, the "Caucasian Knot" has no comments of the prosecutors on the arguments of Rasul Mirzaev's lawyer.
