A resident of Sochi collected 200 signatures for Mayor’s resignation during a single-person picket

On May, 21, a single-person picket with the demand of Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov’s resignation was held near the Administration of Sochi. 200 signatures of the townsmen were collected, Irina Brovkina who held the picket declared.

“The authorities go on resistance to freedom of speech and the right to express one’s opinion. My poster “Discharge Pakhomov! Collection of signatures!” causes some kind of panic reaction of the authorities. The square had been free but as soon as I submitted a notice of a picket for 300 persons companies advertising their production started assembling in the square every day”, Irina Brovkina says.

According to her, Mayor’s office of the city provided the territory of the square for actions held by traders and employment agencies.

“Law enforcement officers were coming up to me suggesting me to leave. I answered that I would not go for I had the right of single-person picketing without any permission”, the activist declares.

Irina Brovkina is going to hold her single-person actions before Mayor’s office until she gets a permission of organizing a picket for 300 persons. There are a lot of sufferers from the actions of authorities and in particular, Pakhomov’s ones, in Sochi. Violation of the law must not become a norm. By means of my actions I hope to make the authorities of Sochi respect the townsmen”, Irina Brovkina said.

The “Caucasian Knot” has yet no comments on Irina Brovkina’s statements from representatives of Mayor’s office of Sochi.
