Statement of Federation of Azerbaijan Human Rights Organizations

The Federation of Azerbaijan Human Rights Organizations issued a statement denouncing the pogroms of the office of Eldar Zeynalov?s Human Rights Center and the threats towards the director of the Institute of Peace and Democracy Leyla Yunus.

The authors of the statement ?do not justify and condemn a number of Eldar Zeynalov?s statements that he made on the territory of Azerbaijan occupied by the Armenian armed forces?. At the same time they find inadmissible to apply a double standard to identical actions of people in a jural state. In particular, it is said in the document that ?in spite of existence of the military conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia Azerbaijan has no legislation prohibiting meetings and cooperation of Azerbaijan citizens with Armenian citizens?. As a result, ?regular meetings between representatives of the parties being enemies take place both on the level of non-government organizations and power structures. Thereupon, the Federation demands from authorities to pass a law regulating relationship of the citizens of the republic with the occupation regime both in Erevan and Stepanakert?.
