3500 residents of Krasnodar came to Cross Procession in honour of Cyril and Methodius

Yesterday evening, May, 24, a Cross Procession passed off in Krasnodar. About 3500 residents of the city, Orthodox Christians, celebrated Twelve Great Feasts, one of the main holydays, the Day of the Ascension of Christ and Day of memory of Cyril and Methodius equal to the apostles.

Thousands of Orthodox parishioners and priests, activists of the "Orthodox Union", Ekaterininsky Center of spiritual and moral development of the young, cultural figures, among them writer Victor Likhonosov, participated in the action, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports on-the-spot.

The Cross Procession started at about 18:00, from Sviato-Ekaterininsky cathedral. Vicar of Ekaterinodar and Kuban Eparchy Bishop Yeisky Herman (Kamalov) together with several tens priests headed the Procession. Laymen and priests were carrying crosses, icons of St. Cyril and Methodius, lord and master Prince Alexander Nevsky, St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and the Virgin in their hands.

From the Cathedral the participants went along Krasnaya street, the central street of Krasnodar. Officers of Road Patrol Service blocked the traffic for the period of the Cross Procession.

Several times the people stopped to tell their solemn prayer and besprinkle themselves with holy water. The Cross Procession ended in front of Cossack Army Alexandro-Nevsky Cathedral where thousands Orthodox parishioners had already been waiting for them, among them several tens officials and employees of different bodies of authority, Mayor's office of Krasnodar and Administration of Krasnodar region.

In the square in front of the Cathedral Bishop Herman held a service followed by a small vocal concert. "Over 3500 Orthodox believers all in all took part in the Cross Procession and about 50 policemen secured public order. There were no delinquencies during the action", Press secretary of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Krasnodar Ilia Shakalov reported.
