In Adygea, 40 persons attend rally in support of homeless animals

40 persons attended a picket, which was held in Maikop on 5 June, on the World Environment Day. Students, ecologists, working citizens and retired people with banners gathered near the Government House of the Republic. They chanted slogans: "We are for Russia without cruelty", "Animals have right to life and protection" and demanded to speed up the construction of kennel for homeless animals in the city.

At the picket, Valery Brinikh, the organizer of the protest action, Chairman of the Republic's Branch of the "All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation", claimed the need to regulate the number of homeless animals by humane ways.

"The number of homeless animals should be regulated by humane ways; we should not destroy them on the streets, but we should catch, sterilize, put to sleep, if a dog is sick. This issue is being raised in Maikop for 10 years already; however, till present, no station for dogs has been built. However, there are positive developments the question of its construction based on hunting station 'Elota' has been already solved," Valery Brinikh stated.

Ramazan Brichev, Chairman of the State Council-Khase of the Republic of Adygea for Tourism, Sport, Environment and Management for Natural Resources, the issue to construct a station for homeless animals in the outskirts of Maikop, where there are vacant land plots and animals will not hinder residents of the city, has already been solved. At present, the issue on allocation of money is to be coordinated with the Ministry of Finance of Adygea.

"We need a kennel for animals, and this is a solution to the problem; however, we should solve the problem, using the experience of civilized countries in foreign countries, homeless animals even undergo medical treatment," Margarita Nikolaevna, a participant of the picket, expressed her opinion.

"And at our place, when you feed homeless animals, you are subject to insulting. I live in a nine-storey building, and I feed animals for 10 years, and they do not come into the house and in the basements, they live in the ownerless territories and disturb no one. Being retirement, I work to buy food products for them. For last 4 years, I face even more difficult situation, residents of the house insult me very much," said the woman.

"This is my third participation in a picket. However, people do not want to assemble for pickets, they all twirl their fingers to their temples, although the subject is urgent," said Tamara Viktorova, one of the participants of the picket.
