Azerbaijan: Oktai Gyulalyev, activist of "Kura" movement, released from custody

Today, the Sabirabad District Court of Azerbaijan decided to change pre-trial restriction for Oktai Gyulalyev, the coordinator of the headquarters of the civil society "Kura", accused of inciting riots. Oktai Gyulalyev was released in the courtroom. However, the criminal case against Oktai Gyulalyev was not stopped.

Yalchin Imanov, the activist's lawyer, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that further form of the pre-trial restriction for Oktai Gyulalyev would be imposed by the investigatory authority, in this case the Sabirabad District Police Department.

"The pre-trial restriction will not be connected with keeping of Oktai Gyulalyev in custody. Perhaps, it will be a recognizance not to leave," the Yalchin Imanov said.

Positively evaluating the court's decision to change the pre-trial restriction, the lawyer, however, expressed his regret that the court did not stop the criminal proceedings against the activist.

According to the lawyer, the indictment is not based on substantial evidence, and it will become obvious at the consideration in the court on the merits.
