Round table discussion "War in Chechnya: Myths and Reality" to take place in Krasnodar

A round table discussion is to be held in Krasnodar on January 21 by the Krasnodar Club of Civil Education and the Krasnodar Regional Office of the Memorial Society. The discussion is titled "War in Chechnya: Myths and Reality". It is arranged within the framework of the enlightening project "What Do You Know and Think of the War in Chechnya?" with the support of the Caucasian Knot information and analytical Internet media and the Memorial International Society. Grigory Shvedov, director of the Caucasian Knot Information Agency and a Memorial International Society board member, and Aleksandr Cherkasov, a Memorial Human Rights Center board member, as well as lawyers working with people on the territory of the Chechen Republic, will take part in the Club's work.

    A criminal case was opened against Artemy Ostanin, a stand-up comedian from the city of Yeysk, after his performance in which he joked about a disabled person who had stepped on a mine. Investigators saw his words as an insult to a participant in the special military operation (SMO), but Ostanin himself claims that he was joking about a simple beggar.

  • Georgian journalist Amaglobeli fined for insulting policeman

    A judge has obliged Mziya Amaglobeli, the founder of “Batumelebi” and “Netgazeti” outlets, to pay a fine within an administrative case of insulting a police officer. At the hearing on the criminal case of the attack on the police officer, the journalist's defence demanded to challenge the judge, but the motion was dismissed.
