FSIN Department denies complaints of Aslan Cherkesov's relatives about violation of his rights in colony

Relatives of Aslan Cherkesov, who serves his sentence in the Krasnoyarsk Territory for the murder of Yegor Sviridov, have claimed a pressure, exerted on the prisoner, and a hunger strike, held by him in protest. However, the Chief Department of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) of the Krasnoyarsk Territory treats the information as false.

At present, Aslan Cherkesov stopped his hunger strike, and he is kept in the penal colony IK-17. This was reported by Igor Kuznetsov, a lawyer of the prisoner. "Aslan was on a hunger strike for a week at the KTB-1 of the Russia's FSIN Chief Department in the Krasnoyarsk Territory it is a hospital in our city of Krasnoyarsk. At present, he stopped his hunger strike, and he is kept at the IK-17," said Igor Kuznetsov in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He points out that his client complained about the absence of any medical care during his week-long stay at the KTB-1, and that was the reason for his going on hunger strike. The lawyer of Aslan Cherkesov fears for the safety of his client, since, according to him, he receives threats periodically.

In late October, Sonya Cherkesova, the prisoner's mother, complained about threat to the life of her son and violation of his rights by the administration of the penal colony IK-17 of Krasnoyarsk.

The Russia's FSIN Chief Department in the Krasnoyarsk Territory conducted the service check on the fact of the complaints, filed by the relatives of Aslan Cherkesov. According to the findings of the service check, during the period of Cherkesov's stay at the FKLPU KTB-1, none of the staff threaten the prisoner.

"He was not subjected to moral or physical pressure. Cherkesov did not declare hunger strikes, and he did not refuse to accept food. Upon his admission to the medical and preventive treatment facility, Cherkesov was placed in a separate ward for medical examination; however, since the prisoner waived the medical examinations, he was transferred to the place, where he was to serve his sentence," responds the reply of the FSIN Chief Department to the request of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
