Ex-workers of the sea-port of Poti stopped their hunger strike

In the evening of November, 26, Administration of the port of Poti is going to bring up a suggestion on rising wages, Deputy Chairman of Trade union of workers of Poti port Gocha Cheminava declared.

According to Deputy Chairman of Trade union of workers of Poti port, the dockers, machinists, fleet service and towage vessel service took part in the strike. He said that the Administration of the port had a meeting with representatives of the strikers on October, 5.

“General Director told us that the accounts department would calculate possible expenses on rising wages and then they would inform us about their decision. We will see how reasonable their suggestions are”, Gocha Cheminava said.

According to Gocha Cheminava, the question of 20 women ex-employees of the port who went on a hunger strike on November, 2, will be settled regardless of the one put by the Trade union.

In the opinion of Deputy Chairman of Association Trade unions Gocha Alexandria, the “new management of the port of Poti will have to fulfill the workers’ demands”.

The “Caucasian Knot” has no comments from the Administration of Poti port yet. However, earlier Director General of Poti port Joseph Crowley expressed surprise with the workers’ demands for, according to him, there were plans of rising wages since January, 1, even without that.

Besides, Crowley pointed out that wages at the moorings Maersk leased to other companies were even less. “Nobody earns so much money”, he declared.
