European Parliament recognizes deportation of Chechens and Ingushetians ordered by Stalin as genocide

The European Parliament has recognized the deportation of the Chechens and Ingushetians to the Central Asia and Siberia in 1944 ordered by Stalin as genocide. The text adopted on February 26 contains a call to the EU Member States to promote peace in Chechnya.

The development of partnership between Russia and the European Union depends on the settlement of the situation in Chechnya, where massive human rights violations take place, the European Parliament believes.
