Medrese teacher assassinated in Gubden buried in Dagestan

On March 4, Magomed Biyarslanov, a medrese teacher, who was shot dead by unidentified persons on March 3 at his home, was buried in the village of Gubden, Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan.

The funeral took place at a large gathering of people. The deceased was 40 years old and he had four small children – three daughters and a son.

Local people are reluctant to contact reporters. One of them told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, while preferring to remain anonymous that Biyarslanov had stuck to a neutral position with respect to the followers of the "traditional" (Sufism) and "non-traditional" (Wahhabi) Islamic trends.

He was also a hafiz (a person who knows the Koran by heart); in 1994, he studied in Karachi (Pakistan) in a hafiz school.

"Magomed did not get into politics; he called on Muslims to unite and did not divide them into Sufis and Wahhabis, although he was himself a Sufi," said the local resident.
