Relative of theologian Bagirzade detained in Baku claims falsification of indictment

The police had actually kidnapped the theologian Talekh Bagirzade, while the charges of drug possession are absurd, Mirgasym Aliev, a relative of Bagirzade, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Haji (a religious title, awarded to a believer who had made a Hajj to Mecca, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") Talekh Bagirzade was on his way at 1:00 p.m. from Nardaran to the believers' event to the neighbouring village of Pirshagi. Somewhere along the way he was detained together with his driver. His relatives were not informed about his fate for almost 24 hours. Do they detain people in this manner in civilized countries? In fact, Haji and his driver were kidnapped," said Mirgasym Aliev.

He recalled that Bagirzade had appeared in court without his lawyer Anar Gasymov, who had urgently left for Turkey to take part in some other case.

After Gasymov's return the arrest of Bagirzade and his driver will be appealed to the Court of Appeal, said Aliev.

So far, the officials from the MIA and authorities have no commented on the arrest of Bagirzade and Melikov.
