Delegation of Abkhaz women visits families of victims of Georgian-Abkhaz conflict in KBR

A delegation of women from Abkhazia has come to the Kabardino-Balkarin Republic (KBR) to visit families of the volunteers who perished during the 1992-1993 Georgian-Abkhaz conflict. According to Anzor Shorov, the chairman of the Union of Abkhaz Volunteers (UAV), the visit is an evidence of the resumption of contacts and warming up of the relations between the two republics.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Akhmed Psheunov, the deputy chair of the UAV, that the delegation consists of 11 women; and Lyalya Chamagua, the representative of the President of Abkhazia on interaction with volunteers of Northern Caucasus, has added that the delegation includes three mothers who lost their children in the conflict - Nanuli Shinkuba, Firuza Kapba (she lost her only son at that war and now heads the Movement of Sukhumi Mothers) and Aza Agumaa, who lost her two sons aged 17 and 20. After the death of her sons, Aza Agumaa went to war herself and was awarded the medal "For Courage".

On arrival, the delegation went to the villages of the Urvan District to visit the families of the perished volunteers Gennady Kardanov, Khadis Masaev Asker Dzagoev and Robert Amalchiev. In Nalchik, they are going to visit the families of Muaed Shorov, Arsen Khaagabanov and Ibragim Naurzhanov.

A total of 59 volunteers from the KBR were killed in Abkhazia. "We are going to visit all the families," said Chamagua. "It's hard, but we'll try."

She added that they are in close contact with the families of the victims. Every year they are invited to Abkhazia. This year, the visit is scheduled for September, when Abkhazia will hold memorable events to mark the 20th anniversary of the end of the 1992-1993 Georgian-Abkhaz.

Anzor Shorov, the chairman of the UAV, has expressed satisfaction with the visit of the Abkhaz delegation to the KBR and increased activeness of contacts with Abkhazia and added that a team of the Abkhaz state television would soon arrive in the KBR to make a series of TV programmes about volunteers. Besides, on April 18 the National Museum of the KBR opens an exhibition of Batal Djapua, a famous gunsmith from Abkhazia.
