About 500 Sochi residents attend ecological action
On June 9, from the midday to 8:00 p.m., the Komsomol Mini-Park of Sochi hosted an action in defence of the nature, which was attended by about 500 people. The organizers believe that it was a success.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Olga Noskovets, a Sochi activist of the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus" and the organizer of the event, that at the request of townspeople, the Ecologist's Day, marked in Russia on June 5, was moved to the weekend.
"This is not a rally, not a picket; it's really an educational and cultural event. During the day, it was attended by about 500 Sochi residents who came to the mini-park, talked with activists and left their signatures in defence of the territory of Kudepsta, which managed to get rid of the industrial zone of the thermal power plant (TPP). People want the authorities to arrange a public park there," said Noskovets.
According to Vladimir Kimaev, the leader of the local branch of the "Yabloko" Party, "the event was interesting to all." "The Mayoralty has organized nothing to mark the Ecologist's Say; however, should the city officials have joined the ecologists, they would have learned a lot about Sochi and its unique nature," he said.
