Woman from Ingushetia states persecution of her sons by police in North Ossetia

Law enforcers of North Ossetia have detained the 23-year-old resident of Ingushetia Igor Podgorny in order to put pressure on earlier detained his elder brother Arthur, said their mother Valentina Podgornaya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Arthur Podgorny was detained on June 12 on suspicion of a murder. His relatives and advocate stated that he was tortured to force him to confess of the crime.

On July 31, Igor Podgorny went on business to Mozdok and was detained on his way back, Valentina Podgornaya told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on August 1.

"Allegedly, Igor rendered resistance to them (the police); and he was arrested for three days for disobeying the police. They gave me a protocol on his administrative offence," said Valentina Podgornaya, adding that, according to her knowledge, her son had been placed into the Mozdok IVS (temporary detention centre).

"Arthur refused to sign confession; now, they detained Igor, and I'm afraid that Igor will be tortured, and that Arthur blackmailed and forced to sign everything they need. I fear for their health and lives," said Valentina Podgornaya.

Earlier, an officer of the Vladikavkaz SIZO (pre-trial prison) said that the custody conditions of Arthur Podgorny meet the current legislation.
