Nine persons picket in Astrakhan against rising prices and tariffs

A picket against rising prices and tariffs on utility services was held on Saturday in Astrakhan; there were nine protesters.

The action was coordinated with the authorities of the city, said Igor Stenin, the organizer and the leader of the association "Russians of Astrakhan". The picket was held near Swan Lake, not far from the offices of the LLC "Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhsk" and the CJSC "Gazprom Mezhregiongaz".

According to the organizer, he had to submit a repeated request after the action intended close to the above offices was prohibited.

"Our February 1 picket aims to draw public attention to the inflated tariffs on gas and heating, especially in view of the fact that our region is gas- and oil-extracting one. Money for the consumed utilities (heating) goes to the Volgograd Region," said Igor Stenin.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the summer of 2013 Astrakhan residents gathered 15,700 signatures to the petition addressed to the President against the increase in utility tariffs in the region.
