In Azerbaijan, journalist Rauf Mirkadyrov is suspected of treason

On April 19, upon the arrival in Baku, Azerbaijani journalist Rauf Mirkadyrov, who was expelled from Turkey, was imprisoned in the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of the Ministry of National Security (MNS) of Azerbaijan. According to advocate Fuad Agaev, journalist Rauf Mirkadyrov is suspected of treason.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 18, Rauf Mirkadyrov, an observer of the Russian-language Azerbaijani newspaper "Zerkalo" (Mirror), was detained in Ankara. According to policemen, the journalist was detained because of his expired documents. On April 19, Rauf Mirkadyrov was sent to Azerbaijan; however, he was not among the passengers, who came of the arrival gate of the Baku Airport.

On April 20, advocate Fuad Agaev was contacted by phone by Ibragim Lebmeranski, an investigator of the Investigating Department for Serious Crimes of the General Prosecutor's Office. "I have asked the investigator, with what specific form of treason Rauf Mirkadyrov is charged; he replied the journalist was charged of espionage," Fuad Agaev said.

Let us remind you that prior to his departure, the journalist told his colleague Zaur Bairamly that he started facing problems after Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Turkey, visited Baku on April 7.
