Dagestani "Chernobyl liquidators" raise problem of sanatorium treatment

On April 26, in Makhachkala, a rally was held at the memorial to the participants of liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the disaster. The problem of providing housing facilities to liquidators is being successfully addressed. However, they need more sanatorium vouchers, said the participants of the rally.

The action brought together 70 people from across the republic, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. They were addressed by Rafik Butaev, the Acting Vice-Mayor of Makhachkala, and Zurab Bagomedov, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Development of Dagestan. They assured that the authorities would do everything to provide the due social and medical help to over 2000 Dagestani liquidators of the consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe.

Liquidators have noted that their main problems are a deficit of vouchers for sanatorium and resort treatment, and definition of the disability group.

Salikh Ismailov, the head of the NGO named "Soyuz-Chernobyl", has added that Dagestan still has liquidators, who do not receive their due disability pension.

Magomedsharip Shanavazov, the chairman of the Dagestani regional branch of the All-Russian Public Organization "Chernobyl Union of Disabled", said the problem of housing for liquidators, which had long been considered a major problem, is almost completely solved.
