In Kizlyar District of Dagestan, detainee's advocate claims his client is beaten up

A resident of the village of Shaumyan of the Kizlyar District of Dagestan, who was detained on June 2 without any indictment, was beaten in custody. Besides, he was not allowed to be visited by his advocate for several days. This was reported by his defender Elena Denisenko. Officials from the Kizlyar ROVD (District Interior Division) have reported that they are checking whether the detainee is a member of the armed underground.

On June 2, Imangazali Magomedov, born in 1980, was detained when he was working (he was a taxi driver). After that, his whereabouts has not been revealed until June 6. This was reported by his advocate Elena Denisenko.

"On the same day, on June 2, his house and his mother's house in the village of Shaumyan were searched. At the very house of Imangazali Magomedov, law enforcers found nothing. And in his mother's house, weapon was allegedly found," the advocate has told in her interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

When Elena Denisenko was visiting her client, she noticed that he was badly beaten and that he got bruises on his body. Imangazali Magomedov has claimed he was not informed of specific charges against him.

Ruslan Magomedov, an advocate of the Dagestani Bar Association, believes that it is difficult to prove the fact of beating and to prosecute persons involved in it.

"In Dagestan, almost every second detainee complains against unlawful methods of investigation. However, neither prosecutors, nor judges are interested in listening to the detainees' arguments. And finally, the judges often make decisions based on confessions given under pressure," Ruslan Magomedov believes.
