Russia's MFA: checkpoint "Gukovo" in Rostov Region shelled from Ukraine

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Russia has stated that today, as a result of actions of Ukrainian power agents, the checkpoint "Gukovo" located on the Russian-Ukrainian border was shelled by artillery; nobody was hurt.

According to the MFA, during the shelling, the exact time of which is not specified, about 230 refugees from Ukraine were in the vicinity of the checkpoint. "The refugees were evacuated to a safe place," said the MFA.

In the context of the incident, the Russia's MFA states that "the actions of the Ukrainian party are a flagrant violation of fundamental principles of the international law." The Russian party moves a protest to the Ukrainian counterpart and demands to stop attacking the Russian territory, says the website of the Russia's MFA.

Earlier, the Southern Customs Department of the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of the Russian Federation reported an evacuation on July 9 of the checkpoint "Matveyev Kurgan": 163 people were sent away, to a safe distance from the border because of the sounds of shelling heard not far from the neighbouring Ukrainian customs checkpoint "Uspenka".
