Attacks on law enforcers

On July 9, in the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan, unidentified persons opened fire at a car with a police major inside, who was driving to his work in the settlement of Yubileiny, and one civilian. On July 9, in Kizilyurt, a retired police colonel Aitemir Salimgereev, a former head of the GOVD (City Interior Division), was assassinated. The crime was committed in the casualty's private house, located in one of suburban communities. Four attackers roped up the son of the former policeman, and then cut off Salimgereev's head before the son's eyes. The armed underground took responsibility for the committed cruel murder.

On July 11, in the village of Echeda, Tsumadin District of Dagestan, an armed clash burst out. An unidentified armed man was noticed on the roof of the mosque, who opened fire on law enforcers. During the shootout, the alleged member of an illegal armed formation (IAF) and his accomplice were liquidated. According to preliminary data of the Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC), the casualties were identified as Merza Abdulkerimov, the leader of the "Tsumadin" grouping, and his "right hand" Magomed Khuchbarov.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On July 6, the Untsukul District of Dagestan was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. During the operative activities conducted in the village of Maidanskoe, an armed skirmish burst out between power agents and unidentified persons. In the course of the above CTO, five militants were killed; and a senior police lieutenant, who was a senior weapons technician of the technical group of the OMON (riot police) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for the Khabarovsk Territory, was killed. According to the press service of the Administration and the Government of Dagestan, four policemen were hospitalized after the armed clashes. As reported by the MIA of Dagestan, two of those killed militants were the Gadjiev brothers, who had been on the federal wanted list on suspicion of assaults on policemen and participation in IAFs.

On July 8, at the outskirt of Maidanskoe, agents of the FSB Department clashed with a group of armed militants. Two militants tried to break out of the village, but were killed by return fire.
