Chechen military commissariats to recruit higher school graduates first
Today, Chechnya, like all other regions of Russia, has launched the process of recruiting young men for military service. For the first time over past 22 years, 500 recruits will be called for military service in the Russian Armed Forces from the Chechen Republic.
According to the military commissariat of Chechnya, young people who graduated from universities are to be the first recruits. "We plan to call to the army the persons who got higher or specialized secondary education. Besides, graduates may choose not to undergo one-year military service, but rather to immediately conclude two-year contracts with commanders and thus receive decent wages. A lot of young people may be attracted by such a perspective," believe officials from the Chechen military enlistment office.
Let us remind you that last time, a large-scale call of Chechen natives for military service in the Russian Armed Forces was held in 1992. After that, Chechen young men were actually not called for service in the Russian army, and only a small number of new recruits were called for service to the units of the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Internal Troops of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) stationed in Chechnya and manned by soldiers from the local communities.
In Chechnya, residents show quite ambiguous attitude to the launched mass conscription of young men to the army. Many young people talk about their desire to serve in the Russian Armed Forces, and at the same time, their parents and some potential recruits show negative attitude to the conscription to the army.
