Two suspects of attacking Premier arrested in Abkhazia

The Sukhumi City Court has satisfied the prosecutors' motion to place in custody two residents of Abkhazia – Akhra Enik and Inal Avidzba – on suspicion of assaulting Beslan Butba, the Prime Minister of the Republic, said Djemal Gogiya, the head of the investigation department of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Abkhazia.

The defendants' defence finds the court's decision illegal and intends to appeal against it at the Supreme Court of Abkhazia, the TASS writes citing the above Djemal Gogiya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 15 the car carrying the Premier and his family was blocked by another car; two men jumped out of it, beat up Butba and fled. Beslan Butba was hospitalized with a brain concussion.

Law enforcers managed to detain the attackers' car in hot pursuit with an employee of the Customs Committee and two other persons inside. On November 16, the GPO opened a criminal case on the fact of the attack against Akhra Enik and Inal Avidzba under the article of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Abkhazia dealing with "The use of violence, dangerous fro one's health, against a state servant".
