In Dagestan, meeting on Karaman ends in a brawl

The Thursday meeting of Karaman representatives with officials from the administration of Makhachkala ended in a fight, in which Magomedamin Magomedov, the leader of the public council of the village of Tarki was injured, said Gamzat Khangishiev, the co-chairman of the Presidium of the Russian Congress of Caucasian Nations.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since November 10 residents of several Tarki villages are on hunger strike in Dagestan, demanding to restore the Tarki District and include the territory of Karaman and Mount Tarki-Tau into it. An assembly of village Jamaats announced the hunger strike to be endless – the hunger-strikers are replacing each other.

According to Gamzat Khangishiev, the conflict occurred in the office of Dagir Abdurakhmanov, the deputy head of the administration of Makhachkala.

"It was caused by Nabiyula Karachaev, the Minister of Natural Resources of Dagestan who bluntly ordered the leaders of village councils Zalimkhan Valiev and Magomedamin Magomedov to convince people to stop the hunger strike and leave Karaman. The brawl was provoked by people from Minister's retinue, perhaps, by his bodyguards," said Khangishiev.

According to his version, during the fight the head of Magomedamin Magomedov was injured. The called policemen took the fighters to the Sovietskiy ROVD (District Interior Division).
