HALO Trust: at least 13 people fell victim to mine explosions in NKR in 2014
In 2014, in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, 13 people suffered from mine explosions: two of them were killed and 11 others were injured, a representative of the international humanitarian organization named "HALO Trust" told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. As reported by the State Emergency Service of the NKR, in 2014, residents of the republic reported the detection of mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) for 160 times.
The HALO Trust (Hazardous Area Life-Support Organization) is engaged in demining the NKR territory since 2000.
"According to the statistics of HALO Trust, since the date of signing the ceasefire in the conflict zone, a total of 365 civilians, including 91 children, suffered from explosions of mines and UXO in the NKR. The highest rate was registered in 2004 – 43 persons suffered, including six children," said Yuri Shakhramanyan, the HALO Trust programme manager for the NKR.
