Court in Dagestan rejects claim on Murad Nurmagomedov's unlawful arrest

On January 26, a court in Makhachkala dismissed a lawsuit on invalidating the custody of Murad Nurmagomedov, the author of the video clip, criticizing the Muslims who celebrate the New Year. He is accused of illegal possession of firearms; his defence intends to appeal against the dismissal.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Nurmagomedov was detained on December 31, 2014. Power agents assert that during a search of his house they found ammunition. Murad's wife is sure that the ammunition was planted.

After receiving the text of the dismissal decision, the defence intends to appeal against it at the Supreme Court of Dagestan, said Ziyavudin Uvaisov, a Nurmagomedov's advocate, who added that Nurmagomedov is kept at SIZO-1 (pre-trial prison) of Makhachkala and has no complaints about his custody conditions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 31, 2011, the hosting YouTube posted a video clip, filmed and edited by Nurmagomedov, and entitled "Attitude of Dagestanis to the New Year". At the moment, the video has gained more than 163,000 viewings. In the video, Dagestani media people, athletes, community and religious leaders urge people not to celebrate the New Year.
