Digging a pit for new apartment blocks has begun today near No. 59 inGamidov Avenue in Makhachkala. Local residents tried to block the process, but they were hustled off by policemen.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that construction of high-rise apartment blocks for resettling people from dilapidated houses began in the yards of Nos. 59 and 77 in Gamidov Avenue. When clearing the site, they demolished garages; and, according to residents, the sites are dangerously close to other houses.

A message that builders began digging a pit has arrived today at the SMS-service of the "Caucasian Knot". "Letters and complaints have been sent to various institutions, but, in spite of this, the outrage continues," wrote the author.

Local tenants went out and tried to stop the construction works; however, policemen did not let them closer to the site. People told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that law enforcers were quite harsh in hustling them off. One of them pushed an elderly man so hard he hit his head against the wall, said a woman from No. 59.

Residents refused to disperse, but the machinery began its work, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
