Intigam Aliev sentenced to 7.5 years in prison

In Baku, the court has found human rights defender Intigam Aliev guilty on all the charges and sentenced him to 7.5 years of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Intigam Aliev, the head of the non-profit organization (NPO) "Society of Legal Education", was accused of tax evasion, illegal entrepreneurial activities, and misappropriation or embezzlement on a large scale. On April 14, prosecutor asked the court to find Intigam Aliev guilty and sentence him to 10 years of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony, and on April 21, advocates called on the court to acquit the defendant.

According to the verdict, in the course of the investigation, it was found that "the investigators had properly qualified the charges" and "the guilt of Intigam Aliev had been fully proved."

In his final speech, Intigam Aliev has completely denied all the charges and claimed being prosecuted for "political reasons for human rights, advocatory and social activities."

Meanwhile, Intigam Aliev has stressed that "the verdict of guilty will not break his will."
